2014 Spring Fairway Aerification

On last Monday, April 14, we completed our annual spring fairway aerification.  We had a company, Sunburst, come in with two machines to solid tine the fairways.  We then followed behind the aerification with sand top dressing and dragged it in.  Below are some pictures of the processes that took place.

2014 Spring Aerification

From March 31 to April 2, we performed our spring aerification.  Below are some photos from the steps that took place.

Drill and Fill

Verti-Drain with solid tines

After cleaning the greens off, we then pulled a core from the greens.

After the cores were picked up, we then put sand on the greens to fill the holes.

The sand was then brushed in while being rolled with broom attached to our greens roller.

New Bunker Raking Method

Starting last week we have implemented a new method of raking bunkers.  We are smoothing the edges, while only raking the bottoms of the bunkers.  The purpose is to encourage golf balls to roll into the flat part of the bunker and not hang up on the edge.  This process has become very popular throughout the industry and is utilized in Australia.  Here are several pictures illustrating the new style.

Awesome view of #8 where you can see the sod from the renovation is still dormant and provides a nice contrast of color with the green and existing turf.

Greens Aeration

Another successful greens aeration!

Despite some adverse weather conditions and even frozen greens on a couple of mornings, we were able to successfully complete another important drill-n-fill and greens aeration process. All in all, over 100 tons of new sand was introduced to the soil profile of the putting greens. We thank you again for your cooperation throughout the week. Below are some pictures of the different steps and techniques we used.
